A total of 313 pollen grains have been counted, but 31% were
indeterminable. 13 taxa are present in the sample which is
dominated by pteridophytes (monolete spores, 41% of total
count). The regional signal is dominated by Alnus (37%)
associated with Pinus (13%) and Castanea (3%). The as-
sociation of Alnus, Pinus and Castanea denotes a mesother-
mic signal and makes the Nong Ya Plong record very distinct
from the other sites analysed in this paper. The only extant
