Computers have become essential in the lives of people; currently a need and must have. Based on research, computers go way back to the time where people are still using abacus. Apparently people before found out that counting huge numbers are difficult and tedious. Charles Babbage made the first computing engine called the Difference Engine. After that, programmable computers, electric programmable computers, digital computers, stored program computers, and commercial computers started to evolve and develop. Every inventor contributed to what we have now the modern computer which are laptops and desktops.
Laptops are what I like to call folded computers. Size vary and ranges from 10.5”x8.5”x1.5” which we call netbook or notebook, 13”x9”x1” which are regular laptop sizes. Other brands may offer a screen that is 15” to 17” wider. Colors also vary depending on the theme, motif, and style of the company. It’s definitely slim and can be brought anywhere because of the stored battery and when it runs out only a charger I needed and doesn’t have to be plugged all the time. Modern laptops have features like webcam, voice recognition, user interface…etc. that makes it better compared to desktop because you don’t have to buy the accessories separately. That’s why it’s always nice to have a laptop, everything is there and ready for use.
A desktop on the other hand has a thicker monitor and has a processor that stores all the things in the computer. Sizes also vary and currently there are brands that offer a flat screen monitor instead of the bulky one. Colors are usually grey, white or black. Desktops are meant for the office or at home, usually a long time use like hours or even days. Accessories have to be bought separately and it takes a lot of space.
Some people consider having both laptops and desktops. If a person has a laptop only and used for a long time, then it will over heat resulting to charging the battery over and over again causing the battery to stop working; might end up like a desktop only more portable. The desktop people have now are mostly the old bulky and heavy one and people are slowly replacing it to update. A person only having a desktop would only have to be in one area to use it. Not to mention Lenovo recently has a product that is CPU free and only has a mouse and keyboard; a better desktop and as portable as a laptop with it’s battery broken. People have to consider how much time you will be using the computer, what is the computer for…etc ; it all depends on the user.
