amides. After boiling, the protein was precipitated in the presence of copper (II) hydroxide
and subsequently separated from the dissolved amides by filtration (Stutzer and Barstein,
1900). The N content of the filtrate was determined according to the Kjedahl method.
Cellulose was determined using the procedure of Meites (1963). The other chemical
components (neutral and acid detergent fibre: NDF and ADF, crude protein, crude fat,
crude ash) were analyzed according to AOAC (1990).
