Just when conference attendees were becoming tired of poorly planned conferences that served up the same old speakers in the same old venues, with the same old dry biscuits and coffee, along came a conference that reminded attendees why the internet will never replace a well-planned and interesting gathering of academics and professionals in the MICE industry. The International Convention & Exposition Summit 2008 (ICES) conference co-hosted by Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV), Singapore, was held February 14–16 in Singapore. The conference, which was planned and executed by the students of UNLV’s only overseas campus—located in Singapore—was attended by academics and professionals from eleven countries, who enjoyed the delicious food, fascinating sights, wonderful networking opportunities, and interesting sessions led by professional and academic leaders of the industry.
