Socioeconomic changes in forest community since the last visit
In comparison with the 2003 visit community or settlement level analysis, some changes as
observed by the research team and revealed through the interviews on the socioeconomic
data include the following:
(1) Increase in population growth leading to increase in the number of user groups
household members. This might be responsible for the low amount of some products
availability in the forest such as mushroom phak wan and some wild fruits.
(2) Some efforts have been made by the forest committee toward improving the forest
condition apart from control over use. Such efforts include forestation by planting of
some plant seedlings but most of them did not survive as a result of inadequate
rainfall but also due lack intentional care on the part of the FUG.
(3) Improved economic condition of the household resulting from both external
(remittances from younger generations who have migrated or are working outside
the village) and internal factors vis-a`-vis the forest.
