Unwarranted variations in the body weight mea- surement practices of nurses are undesirable because of the use of body weight measurements to inform clinical decisions. However, the utility of fluid balance charts to accurately reflect body weight change has been questioned (Eastwood, 2006). A major reason for this is the need for nurses to maintain meticulous attention to detail for the recording and calculation of fluid volumes administered and lost by patients (Scales & Pilsworth, 2008)
