Conclusions
After the glycerol pretreatment of sugarcane bagasse or microcrystalline
cellulose, the liquid product containing high concentration
of glycerol was fermented to 2,3-butanediol and ethanol by P.
polymyxa and proved to be an attractive raw material for fermentation.
Meanwhile, due to the effective demineralization of glycerol
pretreatment, the pretreated sugarcane bagasse showed higher levoglucosan yield (47.70%) in fast pyrolysis than that of
un-pretreated material (11.25%). This strategy provided a green,
efficient and economic way to make full use of glycerol from biomass
pretreatment to fermentation.
