How PHB content increased under acetate supplementation with –N in the
dark was previously speculated (Abed et al. 2009). Acetate is biochemically reacted
to free Co-enzyme A (CoA) giving acetyl-CoA, the direct main substrate for PHB
synthesis. However, acetyl-CoA is also a substrate for other carbon molecules such
as lipids (figure 5-1), thus it might be worth to determine other useful related cellular
product such as lipids and glycogen.
