While this year’s musical line-up has yet to be finalised, you can expect a diverse selection of K-pop groups, Korean EDM (electronic dance music) DJs, Korean hip hop acts, and traditional folk and rock music. Last year’s performers included Korean rapper Jay Park, girl K-pop group AOA, Korean folk music, as well as Crying Nut – one the first Korean punk bands to break out in the 1990s.
“The atmosphere is one big party. Not in a bad way necessarily, but there are many drunk people everywhere [day and night]. But it’s like that at every festival, right?” says Heidi, a 28-year-old Norwegian student who has attended Boryeong in the past.
