The newly isolates yeasts, T. spathulata and K. ohmeri could grow and accumulate lipid in the crude
glycerol supplemented with ammonium sulfate only. The optimal condition for cell growth and lipid
production was determined. This study has shown that the bioconversion of crude glycerol to oils by
oleaginous yeast can be a promising method to produce energy source for our limited crude oil, and may
even benefit the effort for reduction of accumulated carbon in atmosphere
