Any girl who has ever been part of a group or team that she really didn't want to join will relate to the cringe-worthy premise behind The Unbearable Book Club for Unsinkable Girls. Four girls with literally nothing in common do their best (sort of) to form a group for the summer, ostensibly in order to prepare for their AP English class, though their mothers may have other motives for giving their small-town-summer bored daughters something to do. The narrator Adrienne is a bit lost--searching for labels for her identity. Her father has never been a part of her life and she has questions. Fans of the author will recognize Adrienne's mother Jane from Schumacher's 1995 book The Body is Water, which told the story of how Jane became pregnant with Adrienne. "It" girl CeeCee is a sassy rule-breaker who is the catalyst for most of the trouble that Adrienne gets into, including "borrowing" a car and binge drinking on one occasion. Literature fans will appreciate the books that the girls read and the passages that are incorporated into the text. A death does occur, and even though it is referred in the beginning of the book, the author pulls it off a with a surprising twist. Teens will find the friendships in the book interesting, rather awkward and probably very realistic, given the very distinct personalities and social strata involved. - See more at: http://www.storysnoops.com/detail.php?id=1417#sthash.GfvP8ohx.dpuf
