3. Read the beginning paragraphs of the method section and look for a statement that identifies the design. Authors will often describe the design that was used as one of the first topics addressed in the method section of a qualitative report. For example, Komvies et al. (2005) followed up their purpose statement (in the previous paragraph) with the following sentence at the start of the method section: “Because the purpose of the study was to understand how a leadership identity develops, a grounded theory methodology was chosen” (p. 594).
