The aqueous acidic extract from the fruit hulls of mangosteen
serves as a useful alternative natural dye for the dyeing of
cotton and silk. Different shades of color were obtained by
using different mordants. It was found that post-mordanted
cotton with ferrous sulfate and calcium hydroxide showed
good fastness to light and washing compared to other mordants.
Good fastness properties were also obtained using a postmordanted
silk with calcium hydroxide. Therefore, the extracted
dye from the fruit hulls of mangosteen can be used as an
alternative source of natural dye for dyeing of silk and
