Beach of the study area is built by quartz, mostly fine

Beaches near Mixdzyzdroje reach the average width of
35 m (Musielak, 1995). They exceed 100 m on both sides
of waterbreaker of the S´ wina mouth. They can reach
even 130 m during the summer season. The upper part
of the sandy beach is still covered by smaller or bigger
dune hillocks called shadow or embryo dunes (e.g. Hesp,
1981). They can reach even up to 1 m. However, in the
eastern direction, precisely where the beach is shrinking,
these hillocks are getting lower and smaller and then
vanish near Mixdzyzdroje. A different situation is to be
found on the Uznam beaches in S´ winoujs´cie. No sandy
hillocks on upper beach appear, probably because of
tourist influence. Only to the East near the waterbreaker
do the grass hillocks appear. As well as the on border
belt between Germany and Poland, where human
activity is prohibited, the dune hillocks also exist. After
a strong storm surge in 1995 these hillocks have been
