Carrying out smart grid system projects, resulting
in the improvement of grid reliability, the reduction of
electricity cost, and the increase of operational
efficiency, will heighten Thailand’s energy security for
future growth. Presently, Thailand’s energy–related
agencies have recognised the benefits of smart grid
systems, cooperating on their development into more
cost effective systems that expand on the current
electric grid. They are also exploring ways to introduce
smart grid technologies to different sectors, promoting
knowledge and understanding of the future electricity
network.
One result of smart grid implementation is the
development of a more stable electricity system that
is capable of handling increasing energy demand.
Another longer term consequence is that the smart
grid will help drive the reformation of electricity uses
from fossil fuel to renewable energy, and support the
global shift to low carbon economies.
