Practitioners also use RAM to assess people with cancer.
A study using RAM in people with breast cancer by Zeigler et al. (2004) showed the effectiveness of information together with social and emotional support in helping with adaptation to breast cancer. The results of a study by Samarel et al. (1998) examining the four modes of RAM showed a positive change in the thoughts of a majority of participants about breast cancer. However, other studies have indicated that bio-psycho-social responses are most strongly associated with the severity of illness and adjuvant treatment for cancer in determining adaptation (Nuamah et al. 1999, Samarel et al. 2002).
