The overall results of previous studies indicated a relatively beneficial
effect for hyaluronic acid in wound healing; however, some
studies have shown no curative effect for wounds treated with
hyaluronic acid. Nonetheless, most of the studies have mentioned
a significant role for ghee and curcumin which has been extracted
from the rhizomes of Curcuma longa, in accelerating the wound
repair. Because of the complex procedure needed for hyaluronic
acid preparation, unavailability and its very high cost, we decide to
provide a proper newmaterial for improvement of wound healing,
particularly traumatized periodontium tissue following periodontal
surgery, by mixing ghee which was taken from sheep butterfat
and powdered rhizomes of Curcuma longa under special circumstances.
Then, we compared the wound healing effects of this new
formulation to hyaluronic acid in inflammatory and repair stages
of wound healing.
