Kenyans stuck in'50 km' traffic on Nairobi-Mombasa road
Kenyan police have been deployed to ease a traffic jam reportedly stretching for 50 km (30 miles) on the highway between Mombasa and Nairobi. The road is crucial for East Africa's economy as it links the port of Mombasa to landlocked countries, such as Uganda,South Sudan and Rwanda. The worst-affected area is around Taru, about 80 km from Mombasa. Correspondents say the jam has been caused by repairs to the road following heavy rains.
New Zealand rugby union great Jonah Lomu has died aged 40.
Lomu, who scored 37 tries 63 matches for New Zealand between 1994 and 2002, had been diagnosed with a rare and serious kidney condition in 1995. It forced him to quit the game and he had a kidney transplant in 2004,but the organ stopped functioning in 2011. Family spokesman John Mayhew told New Zealand television that Lomu's death was "totally unexpected" and that he had only arrived back from the UK on Tuesday, after spending time there for the Rugby World Cup.
