Fats and polar lipids, particularly phospholipids, are co-extractable substances in food matrices that contribute to matrix interferences for the analysis of veterinary drugs. A novel sorbent capable of removing both phospholipids and fats from extracts was employed prior to LC-MS/MS analysis. The sample cleanup using this sorbent was significantly improved when compared with results using silica-based C18 by removing more than 80% of interfering phospholipids.
