As can be seen from Table 1, the three aspects registering the highest scores were item 15 (‘Learning English enables me to transfer my knowledge to other people, e-g. giving directions to tourists’, x¯ = 4.67), item 11 (‘Studying English enables me to understand English books, films, pop music, etc.’, x¯= 4.67) and item 13 (‘Studying English enables me to keep in touch with foreign acquaintances’, x¯ = 4.62).
