Data Sources
Establishing model validity in a design and devel-opment study requires collecting data from a variety of sources. Triangulation of data from designers, instruc-tors and learners improves a researcher’s ability to make inferences about the data as it relates to the vali-dation of the model (Richey, 2005).
Designer Data. Demographic data including gender, ethnicity, education, and design experience in both general and simulation-based courses were col-lected from the designer. A log was kept by the de-signer to provide data regarding model use during the design phase, as well as any problems encountered and impressions of the model. The designer log was ana-lyzed for evidence of decisions made during the design phase and designer reflections on the model.
