IThe Thurstone scale (Thurstone and Chave, 1929) is a way of adding measurement to attitude ratings. Where the Likert scale can only rate respondents’ attitudes against those of other respondents, the Thurstone scale (see Example 16.3) is an interval measure which allows a value to be placed on each choice with an equal appearing interval scale between values. This implies that the scale will reflect the absolute attitudes of respondents rather their relative attitude.
