Staged for the 14th year, the Best of the Best Culinary Awards programme is among the oldest and most reputable events in the catering and dining industry in Hong Kong. By recognising high-quality signature Chinese dishes and promoting them to visitors and local residents, the event helps uphold Hong Kong’s image as the culinary capital of Asia.
The cooking competition consisted of a preliminary round, which shortlisted 10 contestants for each category for the finals on 23 and 24 June. The judging panel, formed by renowned local food critics, celebrity chefs and other personalities, rated the dishes based on various criteria, including taste and smell of the dishes, the culinary knowledge and skills of the chefs, the combination of ingredients and sauces, 1 presentation and creativity. In addition to the Gold with Distinction Award, there were Gold Awards and Silver Awards in each category.
The winners of the 2015 Best of the Best Culinary Awards were selected at the finals held at the Chinese Cuisine Training Institute. Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), this year’s event featured four categories – dim sum (Chiu-Chow style dumplings), minced meat dishes, mushroom and vegetable dishes, and chicken pot. A total of 9 dishes were bestowed the highest award – Gold with Distinction Award. Various dishes given the Gold with Distinction Award will be available at the Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival to be held during 22 to 24 October 2015.
