Modern ceramic industry prefers using yellow, orange, and red
chromate pigments chemically based on lead chromates. Thus
intensive research leading to development of pigments eliminating
addition of heavy metals and in the same time maintaining
the quality of colouration and other pigment properties is
underway. Substances satisfying such conditions may be those
based on SnO2 a BaSO4 (alternatively BaCO3). When they are
appropriately doped with other elements, mainly with lanthanides,
their thermal stability and colour properties can change
considerably.
