To evaluate the effects of wind speed, IRT temperatures of the
‘‘eye’’ were recorded as the wind speed was increased by 2 km/h
increments up to 18 km/h. The camera was placed 1 m away from
the tape and the camera setting was kept constant at 1 m. Wind
was generated with a 25.24 cm fan that was directed across the
eye surface. The wind speed was measured with a Pitot tube
(Dwyer Instruments, Michigan City, IN). The pressure difference
was measured using a low pressure differential transmitter (Model
XLdp, Ashcroft Inc., Stratford, USA) with a sensitivity of
1 mV = 1 kPa. The pressure gauge was incorporated into a simple
gain circuit with the output voltage measured by a voltmeter
(Fluke 287 Digital Multimeter, Mississauga, Canada).
