Video Presentation
Objective: to present a cultural change that has occurred in Thailand within the last 10-50 years.
Think about cultural changes that have taken place in Thailand in the last 10-50 years and focus on one specific area of change. Make a video presentation that explains how things have changed. Present the changes and also consider other relevant points such as whether these changes have affected everyone in society or only specific groups, or geographical areas of the country, whether change has occurred suddenly or gradually and how this affects different groups of people. (These are examples, you should try to think of other important issues yourselves).
Intended audience: foreigners who know very little about Thailand. This means that you need to assume they don’t know anything and think carefully about how you explain.
Presentation: Video, 4-5 minutes. This is a video presentation but you can decide exactly how you will present it. You could make a PowerPoint presentation and convert to video, or produce a video clip.
Groups: 3-5 students
Example topics: Possible topics for you to choose include the following (but many others are possible):
family / family relationships
working life
personal relationships
education
religion
food / eating habits
communications / transport
leisure / entertainment
shopping
attitudes to foreigners
dress / appearance
personal values
Note:These are very general topic areas. You need to narrow a topic area down to have a more specific focus.
Deadline: The video should be submitted in Week 5.
Tutorial session: In Week 6, you will participate in a group tutorial session, in which you will have to discuss your video presentation and connect it to the concepts and ideas that we have been looking at in this course. You will not be with other members of your group.
