Acute and chronic intoxications with mercury, lead and cop-per compounds can be treated efficiently in many cases byusing chelation therapy. Recent development in the therapyof intoxications with these compounds justifies the presentupdate. The efficiency of the relatively new chelating agentsmeso-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid (Succimer or DMSA) and d,l-2,3-dimercapto-1-propanesulfonic acid (Dimaval or DMPS) in leadand mercury poisoning has turned out to be superior to that ofclassical chelator 2,3-dimercaptopropanol (British Anti Lewisite,BAL).
