The current meta-analysis
Although PMT programs have existed for decades and have been heavily researched on for their efficacy, there have been
no meta-analyses published to determine the direct effects of PMT programs on the disruptive behaviors of children with a
developmental disability especially, as well as investigating at the various pertinent moderating effects of the different
variations and modes of the programs (e.g. age of child, individual vs. group format, etc.). Developmental disability is a
chronic condition and the behaviors and mental health diagnoses of children with a developmental disability tend to be
more severe than those of typically developing children. PMT programs have been developed specifically to increase the
parenting skills necessary to reduce such behaviors of children. This meta-analysis seeks to determine the effect of PMT
programs on reducing disruptive behaviors on children with a developmental disability, with specific focus on various
moderating effects in order to understand how they may affect the outcome.
