The results of the analysis on polyploidy of cross parents for
interspecific hybridization using flow cytometry (Table 3) showed
that the relative DNA content of diploid species of ‘Whiteberry’,
‘UC-01’, and ‘Hawaii-30’ were similar to each other, remaining in
the range of 0.53–0.59, but the DNA content ofthe octoploid species
‘Akihime’ was 1.76, which was significantly higher than the diploid
species. Considering polyploidy C-level from the internal standard,
the ‘Akihime’ cultivar showed a level of 6.6, but was confirmed to be
octoploid (8x) when relative DNA content(8x = 1.76) was compared
after converting 8x into x.
