Characteristics of the sampling group of farmers
We interviewed farmers in Lum rang sub-district, Bo ploy district and Phra
Thaen sub-district, Tha maka district, Kanchanaburi. We interviewed 56 farmers in
total; 29 females and 26 males. The sample group accounts for 0.3 percent of the
whole farmers population in both sub-districts. The ages of this sample group of
farmers range from approximately 21 to higher than 71 years old. Average age of the
sample group is 55 years old. The education that our sample group has received rages
from none to Master Degree. Most of the farmers from this sample group received
education up to primary school level. The years of experiences in farming range from
less than ten years to more than thirty years. Majority of the farmers from this sample
group has been doing farming for over thirty years. Therefore, as shown in figure 4.1
a. and b. our sample group mostly represents the middle-aged farmers who are very
experienced in farming, but this group does not represent the new or younger
generation of farmers.
