Second, the media have the means of "making public" and selectively amplifying what is otherwise hidden or unknown. they can produce fame and also infamy, both of which are valuable resources in politics.
Third, there is the fact that the public largely depends on media for its stock of politically relevant ideas, information and impression.
Fourth, and in connection with this, the "reality" of world events is initially largely interpreted and made sense of by the media, even if not in a unifrom way. They are in some sense primary definers of what is taken for reality.
Fifth, most of the relations between politicians, leader and the public are in one way or another mediated though the channels of mass communication, which means they are subject is some degree to requirement of media system.
