Data collection procedure
A legal guardian for each participant provided informed written consent before being included in
the study. The study was approved by the Sungshin Women’s University Institutional Review
Board. Data collection was conducted from November 2009 to February 2010 to capture the most
information, as AD is more common during the winter season. While children were waiting for the
regular checkup with physicians in the outpatient clinic, they completed the self-report survey
questionnaire on resilience. Accompanying adults, mainly mothers, completed the Korean version
of the Child Behavior Checklist (K-CBCL) and a questionnaire on demographic characteristics.
The written consents were obtained from both children and their accompanying adults. The average
completion time was approximately 20 minutes, and each child and his/her mother received a
token of appreciation at the completion of the questionnaire. The official diagnosis, current illness
status, and duration of illness were obtained from medical records.
