A semi-quantitative scoring system

A semi-quantitative scoring system was
used to evaluate five morphological parameters: tissue integrity and
length of mucosal folds (MF), width of the lamina propria (LP), abundance and size of goblet cells (GC), thickness of the sub-epithelial mucosa (SM), and of the presence and size of supranuclear vacuolization
(SNV) (Baeverfjord and Krogdahl, 1996; Urán et al., 2008). For each parameter, scores were assigned based on a scale of 1 to 5, with fish from
the FM100 treatment ranked as 1 and a score of 5 indicating the greatest
degree of morphological change or damage.
