Currently Frank Weiand is an advisor under Brain Tank Thailand. Having worked in and with the Thai and German Automotive industry for over 20 years, Frank has a very extensive knowledge in global procurement and procurement processes, project management and simultaneous engineering at OEM and T1 supplier, quality assurance, sales and business development. Frank has assisted Thai government organizations such as “Thai Automotive Institute”, TISI, in developing Tx supplier in Thailand based on VDA standards in order to qualify as potential T1 supplier to German OEM,s. Due to his wide global business network, he is able to connect supplier, business partner or people interested to invest in Thailand to the right people.
Frank Weiand is the former purchasing and QMT director of BMW Manufacturing Thailand, being responsible for indirect purchasing in Thailand and direct purchasing in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
He has been a member of the board of directors of BMW Manufacturing Thailand till end of 2014.
Most recently Frank has been restructured the local sourcing processes for direct parts and indirect products and services in Thailand. He extended the LC supplier network for BMW by developing and auditing new suppliers.
He redefined the local content parts in agreement with the Thai authorities and developed the LC processes with new local supplier for BMW new motorbike production, starting in 2014 as well as for the new BMW car engine assembling business, starting end of 2015.
In his previous function, Frank was the Global Key Account Manager for Valeo Lighting Systems and globally responsible for Audi business and development of new lighting projects including advanced development projects of new lighting technologies. Among global OEM,s Audi is the design and innovation leader in lighting development.
Before, Frank started as a resident engineer at Asahi Automotive Glass Company, formerly known as Splintex Automotive in Belgium. Later he became the Global key Account Manager of AGC for BMW worldwide operation. In 1999 he became responsible for the production transfer of BMW E46 side lites from Belgium to Thailand. Frank achieved a quadruple increase of turnover with BMW globally within 4 Years through development of new technologies and sustainable quality improvement.
rank Weiand has been member of the committee of Automotive Focus group Thailand and served as a secretary in 2014. In 2015 he took over the Vice President position.
