Dos and Don'ts
The Dos…
Do have fun!
The whole point of Ask.fm is to provide you with a fun place for you to chat with your friends, connect with new people and to ask and answer interesting and different questions.
Do ask genuine and interesting questions
Rather than just copying and pasting other people's questions, this is your opportunity to ask the questions to which you really want to know the answer!
Do ask anonymous questions
This can be really useful there's something you want to know but are too shy or embarrassed to ask.
Do remember that it's your choice
Just because someone asks you something, don't feel under any pressure to respond if you don't want to. You can just ignore it or delete it if you prefer. And don't worry, they won't know that you've deleted it.
Do accept that everyone is different
Just because you don't agree with what someone says, it doesn't make them wrong. Everyone is allowed to have their own opinions and beliefs, as long as they are not hurting, upsetting or threatening anyone.
Do spread Ask.fm across the web
Feel free to share your Ask.fm posts with the rest of the world and on other social networks. Let everyone know what you think about things and tell them about how great our site is and ask them to join in!
Do share your thoughts with everyone
Ask.fm allows you to tell people about yourself – and there are people out there who want to know! After all, that's why you've been asked questions. So, if you are happy doing so, answer them!
Do use a unique password, and do remember it
Make sure you have a strong password, and don't tell it to anyone (even your closest friends). If you think anyone else might know it, you should change your password immediately – your account is just for you.
Do look after yourself
If someone asks you a question that is mean, or which upsets you, stresses you out or makes you angry, don't answer it – just press the block button and tell us why using the report button. You will not receive questions from that user once you have blocked them.
Do look after each other
If you see any bullying or something mean or horrible on someone else's profile, do the right thing and report it immediately. All of our members should be looking out for everyone else. Our team is here to try to prevent or limit abuse of our site, so tell us immediately if someone is ruining your (or anyone else's) Ask.fm experience and we'll look into it. And don't worry, no-one will know that you've told us.
Do tell your parents, carers, teachers or friends
If something or someone has upset you on this site or if you feel like you don't know what to do about something someone has said, or something you've seen anywhere on the site, speak to a parent, carer, teacher or someone you trust, such as a good friend. There's no need to keep it to yourself.
Do check your profile settings
Make sure that you are aware of what people can see and what information you have made public. And, if you don't want to receive anonymous questions, make sure you have the right settings to stop you from getting them.
And here are a few Don'ts…
Don't feel you need to answer every question
Before you answer a question, take a moment to think about who is (or, if it's anonymous, who might be) asking that question and why they are asking. This is particularly important if you are being asked something personal or private. You don't have to answer if you don't want to.
Don't post too quickly
Remember that what you do and say matters. If you do not think about what you say before saying it you might unintentionally hurt someone's feelings or damage your reputation, as well as other people's reputations. So, if in doubt, hold back from saying something hurtful or that might cause embarrassment to others or yourself.
Don't say mean things
If you're nice to everyone, everyone should be nice to you. Treat people as if you were talking to them face to face. If you don't like someone, leave them alone and don't contact them.
Don't post personal identification information on your public profile
Think carefully before making personal information publicly available on your profile which could be used to identify you or contact you, such as your home address or telephone number – you wouldn't want just anyone knowing these details.
Don't post sexually explicit, violent, insulting or horrible pictures or videos
They are absolutely not allowed here, this is not the place for them. We do everything we can to remove such pictures and videos (and people who post them).
Don't be a bully
It is absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated: Ask.fm is not for bullies.
Don't do anything illegal on our site
We will do everything we can to remove anyone from Ask.fm who says or does anything illegal.
Where any user fails to follow our guidelines, we may send them a warning, delete a post that they have made and/or delete their account. These are not all of the things that we can do and we reserve the right to decide on the best course of action to take. We have put these policies and guidelines in place to help make Ask.fm a fun and friendly place for all of our users, so please follow them.
For more information, read our Abuse Policy, our Privacy Policy, our Terms of Use and our Safety and Security Essentials.
