Identification of Visual Impact Criteria
A considerable amount of empirical research has been undertaken over the last 30 years to identify the salience of individual attributes important in the visual assessment of buildings. The literature on visual assessment falls into two broad categories, that which is architecturally oriented (i.e., relates to specific physical attributes of a building such as colour and construction materials) and that which is urban design oriented (i.e., historical context, locational attributes and impact on the street scene).
