When unneutered male cats reach sexual maturity,
they will spray urine to mark their territory. Female
and neutered male cats may still spray urine, but they
are far less likely to do so than an unneutered male.
To stop this behavior, cats should be spayed ( female)
or neutered (male). Spaying and neutering will help
reduce aggressive behavior, prevent the birth of unwanted
kittens and feline overpopulation, and reduce
the risk of diseases, such as Feline Leukemia
(FeLV) and Feline AIDS or Feline Immunodefi ciency
Virus (FIV). Cats should be spayed or neutered before
they reach sexual maturity, which may be as
early as 4 months of age.
