and 46.66 stems.ha-1, respectively. Saplings and
seedlings also followed the same pattern as the
trees (Figure 5A). However, native trees such
as Lagerstoemia duperreana, Afzelia xylocarpa
and Pterocarpus macrocarpus could grow to the
sapling stage only in the nLP where they had a
low stocking density of 113 stems.ha-1. High stem
densities of shrubs and shrubby trees were found,
primarily belonging to shade-tolerant species such
as Sampantaea amentifl ora, Maerua siamensis,
Clausena wallichii, Atalantia monophylla,
Murraya paniculata and Streblus ilicifolius (Table
2). The mature trees of Leucaena leucocephala
were distributed only in the LP, and low seedling
and sapling densities were found under their shade
(Figure 5B).
