Mint,
I don't know how much you have traveled, but here are a few suggestions that I have.
1. Take a picture of your luggage before you check it at the airport. If it gets lost, it makes it much easier to make a claim so they can find it. With a picture, you can see the style, color, etc.
2. Mark your luggage with something distinctive if it looks like a lot of other people's luggage. A bright colored ribbon or string on the handle works well. It makes it easier to spot it when it's coming in at the airport.
3. Put your name and my address on a piece of paper and put it inside each piece of luggage. If it really gets lost, they will open it and it will make it easier to get it to you.
4. When you get to the airport in BKK, make sure you fill out a tag with your name and address and put it on the handle of each piece of luggage. The airline will supply these. Get the tags and fill them out while you are standing in line.
5. Whenever you fly into another country, you have to fill out a landing form. They will pass these out on the plane before you land at Narita (Japan), but you don't have to fill one out there because you are continuing on to the USA. They will hand them out again before you land in Minneapolis. You will have to fill that one out. That's where you will enter my name, address, and phone number as a contact person. Keep that information with you on the plane, either on a piece of paper or in your phone.
6. When you land in Minneapolis, everyone on the plane will have to go through lines to check passports and visas. Just get in a line where they are checking foreign passports. They will take your picture and ask you a few questions. Just tell them you're an exchange student and smile. All will go well.
7. If you have questions along the way, just ask an airport employee. They're used to answering questions and will be glad to help you.
If I think of anything else, I'll email you.
