These studies indicate that direct aerosol AP testing of exhibits could be implemented without detrimental effects so long as the reporting forensic scientist gives due consideration to the increased risk that the reaction observed could be due to a false AP positive reaction. The increased risk should be considered on a case by case basis and assessed according to the location of the positive AP reaction, the exhibit being tested and the alleged case circumstances. As with any examination the health and safety implications for the use of acid phosphatase reagent should also be considered on a case by case basis.
