Our results illustrate the amplification of environmental beliefs and agency/activism, which can occur above and beyond those of a youth’s parents. The greatest amount of the variance in a young person’s online peer persuasion related to being more environmental was not explained directly by his or her parents’ attitudes and background. Youth interest in politics, political consumerism, environmental self-efficacy, age, and gender explained a great deal more than what was explained by the control and parental variables. In the path analysis, only one parental variable had significant direct relationship with a young person’s online peer persuasion.
