By focusing research on the development of agroforestry technologies,
which are usually more limited in scope with regard to components and their
interactions, as compared to whole land-use or farming systems, will result
in quicker research gains. Technologies are often easier to apprehend and,
offered as packages, easier to subject to on-farm testing with the consent of
farmers. This facilitates an earlier release to extension, and a more progressive
promotion of agroforestry as an integrated approach to land-use is likely
to be achieved.
