Hi 1KC Parents,
First of all, a huge thank you to all who helped make our USA Day last Wednesday a fun and successful event! A special thank you to those who helped with an activity outside in the sun and heat! The students really enjoyed it and we appreciate your help so much.
For the next 3 weeks in Social Studies we will be learning about Christmas traditions around the world. We will learn about how the holiday is celebrated in different ways and will enjoy making something from each country.
Christmas began as a celebration of God sending his son, Jesus to the earth in human form to live among people. He would grow up to take the sins of the world on himself, bringing salvation to all who believe and making friendship with God available freely to all. It is the greatest gift we could ever receive. This is why Christmas is a time of joy, peace, love, and giving.
Yesterday your child brought home a white paper that explained an opportunity for you and your child to get involved in giving during this Christmas season. The 1st Grade classes will be collecting new books to donate to kids in need. Please see that paper or the 1st Grade website for more details.
Your child also has the chance to give to their classmates. We will be making Christmas stockings and on the last day of school before Christmas break, each student may put 1 candy into each of their classmates' stockings. To keep things affordable and equal, please only send 1 piece of candy per student. No toys or other treats. Thanks!
Lastly, by now every student has brought home a finished informational book that we have been working on in Writing time for the past 6 weeks. They have chosen their best book to keep at school for now, but their other books were sent home last week. Enjoy them with your child, noting the writing skills they have used to help teach a reader about a topic. They have done some great work!
Thank you for your partnership in teaching your child this year!
Sincerely,
Miss Katie
