Chlorine demand
As most of the micro-organisms of water origin, if present in drinking water, usually show
chlorine demand, so testing chlorine demand is a sensitive parameter for ascertaining
potability of water from a microbiological point of view. It was heartening to note that none of
the samples showed any chlorine demand and thus indicated the absence of disease causing
micro-organisms. However for the confirmation of occurrence of micro-organisms in
drinking water, some more specific tests like MPN, Escherichia coli, etc. should be carried out.
