Neem (Azadirachta indica) is a tropical and subtropical species indigenous to India and South East Asia (Kunfel, 1978). It is from the Meliaceae family.
Today, the neem tree is grown in many Asian countries and in tropical regions of the western hemisphere (Sidhu et al., 2003).
The neem tree has been known for centuries in India.
In the Ayruveda language, it is called the “tree pharmacy”.
Indeed, various neem parts have been used by Indians in cooking and in folk medicine to treat malaria and other afflictions (Nadkarni and Nadkarni, 1954; Dey and Mair, 1973).
