Selection of the Proper External Protective Coating systems shall be determined using the following logic:
4.3.1 Determine service requirements based on the type of item to be coated (pipe or equipment), the Operating Temperature (or range of temperatures), and insulation or fireproofing requirements.
4.3.2 Determine the most appropriate COATING SYSTEM for the application based on the recommended coating systems found in TABLE 2 through TABLE 4.
4.3.3 Review the Design Conditions for Design Temperature (maximum anticipated temperature) to determine if the short term exposure temperature will result in Coating System failure.
4.3.3.1 If the Design Temperature duration is short and the magnitude of the Design Temperature such that the coating will discolor, but not result in failure, then the selected Coating System may be applied.
4.3.3.2 If the Design Temperature duration and magnitude of the Design Temperature such that the coating will blister, peel, crack, or lose adhesive qualities, then a Coating System with a higher temperature rating should be selected.
4.3.4 Refer to the Approved Manufacturers and Coatings listed in Appendix A of this specification.
