In this article, we have used the term ‘composition’as an umbrella term for the trends in article types, numbers of authors, pages, and references over time. Analysis of the data indicated that the number of authors, pages, and references have significantly increased over time (means, standard deviations, and correlations are presented in Table 2). All of the reported correlations in Table 2 were significant at the α = 0.05 level. Thus, we can conclude that over the past two decades there has been an obvious and considerable increase in the length of articles, the number of references per article, and number of authors collaborating on anarticle.
