In the sections that follow, I first derive hypotheses about network interaction under varying conditions of threat and opportunity. Next I report the results of two vignette-based experiments: one that involved 158 senior leaders from one large organization (Study 1) and the other with 129 employees from a wide range of organizations (Study 2). I conclude with the implications of these findings for further research on the interplay between cognition and organizational social networks.
