Several embryonic and egg factors have been
suggested to be involved in relationship between storage
duration, reduced hatchability, and hatchling quality,
such as the developmental stage of the embryo
Accordingly, several approaches have been introduced
to decrease the adverse effects of prolonged storage
on hatchability and chick quality, including prestorage
incubation
treating the eggshell
with oil (Hill and Hall, 1980), storing the eggs in small
end up position or increased turning frequency during
the subsequent incubation
Nevertheless,
improving the hatchability and chick quality
still appears to be a challenge for long-term storage of
hatching eggs
