Analyzing the curves in Figure 3 and Table 4 from which it
may be concluded as follows.
(1) SDD has influence on the flashover characteristics
whichever polluting method is used. Average ac pollution
flashover voltage decreases with the increase of pollution
severity (SDD) according to a negative exponential function.
Further, the Uav decreases very little with a further increase of
the pollution severity when SDD exceeds a certain degree
regardless of which polluting method is used. The correlation
coefficients of regression (3) are greater than 0.98.
(2) In this paper, the parameters a1 and a2 can determine
the similar law between BM, DM and SM. From the Table 4,
all of a1 and a2 are less than 5% for type A-C. Therefore, the
authors can draw that there are power functions between Uav
and SDD, and the fitting curves have similar regularity using
different polluting methods. It can also be seen from Table 3
that, the influence of polluting method on a is negligible. That
is to say, the flashover voltage of the composite insulators is
of a nearly power relationship with the SDD regardless of
which polluting method is used.
